Visit the Chinese Labour Corps stall to learn more about the Chinese Labour Corps heritage project which is being brilliantly delivered by The Meridian Society.

During London’s Dragon Boat Festival on Sunday 25th June, visitors will learn about the vital contribution of the Chinese Labour Corps during WW1. Witness how the Chinese entertained the troops with a CLC character on stilts dressed in traditional folk opera costume from Shandong province where most of the Chinese were recruited. Come along to try walking on stilts yourself!

This year marks the 100th anniversary of the forgotten faces of WW1, the Chinese Labour Corps. They set foot in France on 19th April 1917 in support of the British and French armies and played a crucial role during the war by carrying out important manual activities. Further heritage events are planned until the end of 2018, culminating in a digital memorial of the Chinese Labour Corps that will serve as a lasting tribute to these brave men.
