AAAHA is working in partnership with Thurrock Council arts and culture via Thurrock International Celebration of Culture (TICCulture). This partnership endeavours to expand the cultural landscape in the area and to reflect the migratory and commercial histories of Tilbury Docks.

In association with Thameside Theatre, Thurrock Museum and Thurrock Library, all located within Thameside Complex, plus Thurrock Music Services and Kinetika based at High House Production Park, real and virtual activities around heritage, the written word, moving and still images are being developed. AAAHA is exploring how intertwining past, present and future through creative, digital paths can generate engaging innovative cultural prisms for everyone to experience in new and impactful ways.

These ventures will benefit communities who are connected directly with a designated cultural heritage but have no easy way to connect with it. It will also provide access for people to experience other cultures, thereby, increasing perception and understanding of the worlds of others. Enriched by such information and the awareness of the subtle complexities of being human in a global context, individuals and groups are empowered to lay bare the banalities of nationalism.

As Erich Fromm has stated: “Creativity requires the courage to let go of certainties.”

Humans “need myths and idols to endure the fact that man is all by himself, that there is no authority which gives meaning to life except man himself. Man represses the irrational passions of destructiveness, hate, envy, revenge; he worships power, money, the sovereign state, the nation; while he pays lip service to the teachings of the great spiritual leaders of the human race, those of Buddha, the prophets, Socrates, Jesus, Mohammed — he has transformed these teachings into a jungle of superstition and idol-worship.”

“As far as I can see there is only one answer: the increasing awareness of the most essential facts of our social existence, an awareness sufficient to prevent us from committing irreparable follies, and to raise to some small extent our capacity for objectivity and reason.”

The intelligent use of digital technologies to widen access to intangible heritage from around the world is a powerful device to provide positive integration of self in today’s world.
